DACS highlights the importance of intellectual property frameworks at the Jingdezhen Cultural Innovation & Development Forum in China

DACS CEO, Christian Zimmermann was invited as a keynote speaker at the inaugural Jingdezhen Cultural Innovation and Development Forum, in China on 18th and 19th October.

The forum, hosted by the National Copyright Administration of China in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, and the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government, is dedicated to fostering discussions on cultural heritage development as well as sharing best practice from around the world.

Christian Zimmermann spoke on the importance of how the UK’s intellectual property framework and enforcement mechanisms ensures creators receive fair remuneration for the use of their works.

In the UK we are still battling with some of these concepts where a lot of large corporations prioritise the ease of administration over the recognition that creators need to be able to earn a living from their works.

One of DACS’ core objectives is to stand up for the protection of creators’ rights and for the importance of creators to earn a living if we want our creative industries to continue to flourish and for our creators to bring new ideas and innovation for the enjoyment of everybody.

In a world that is increasingly digital, where computer or AI generated works proliferate, it is more important than ever to recognise authenticity and to protect artists who are at the forefront of innovation and creation.
