The recipient of the DACS Annual Award 2019 was Ryan Gander.
In a world fragmented by conflicting ideologies, artists offer unique insights, disrupting our assumptions and inspiring new ways of seeing. DACS seeks to provide artists with a platform via our Annual Award.
The audience joined Gander in exploring Perspectives, a talk that considers our inability to change.
Ryan Gander is the second artist to receive DACS’ Annual Award. At our inaugural event in 2018, the award went to Turner-Prize nominated artist Anthea Hamilton, who took the audience on a contemplative journey about looking.
About the artist
Ryan Gander has established an international reputation through artworks that materialise in many different forms – from sculpture to film, writing, graphic design, installation, performance and more besides.
Through associative thought processes that connect the everyday and the esoteric, the overlooked and the commonplace, Gander’s work involves a questioning of language and knowledge, as well as a reinvention of both the modes of appearance and the creation of an artwork.
