CVAN and DACS convene Visual Arts roundtable with Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Thangam Debbonaire MP
The Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Thangam Debbonaire MP, was joined by Shadow Minister for Arts and Heritage Lilian Greenwood MP and Shadow Spokesperson for Culture Media and Sport, Lord Bassam – to hear from a broad range of organisations representing the interests of visual artists and the wider visual arts sector.
Attendees were invited to present the critical challenges facing the sector and provide potential policy solutions to these challenges.
DACS took the opportunity to highlight how the UK’s IP framework can work harder for visual artists and the UK economy, to address issues of low pay, income precarity and the undervaluing of the work of freelance artists, to create fairer, more sustainable terms, a thriving talent pipeline, and strong economic growth.
We were pleased to hear widespread support for The Smart Fund both from Labour’s DCMS team and the visual arts organisations in attendance.
Attendees:
ACME, a-n The Artists Information Company, Arts Council England, The Art Fund, BALTIC, Crafts Council, Creative Land Trust, CVAN, Fabian Society, Freelands Foundation, Gallery Climate Coalition, New Art Exchange, Quench Gallery.
